Mike's on the fly FeatureAbout the Feature
My on the fly feature, being on the fly, is rather erratic and often doesn't really follow a set format. Features could be up for days, or for a month depending on what I feel like.
My selection process generally consists of my lurking the forums. I am constantly looking at photographers to see if they show promise, but usually don't tell them I'm featuring them until I actually do it.
If I am truly moved by a body of work that deserves more attention than it gets, or find significant improvement in an photographers work, they will most likely get a mention here.
I may also go back through people watching me or people I watch, and find someone to talk about. I may also mention friends of mine.
If you get a feature, take it as an honor. But likewise, if you do not get a feature, it's not because I don't like you or as a personal insult. Some artists are too interesting to pass up giving props as soon as possible. I might very well get to you eventually.
I greatly implore all of my watchers to at least take a look into the gallery of the featured photographer. If you like what you see, be sure to leave comments, or watch to show your support.
It's about time I updated this.
I've been planning on featuring this photographer for a while now, since she messaged me in my "New Photographers" feature in the news. At the time her gallery was impressive, but since then it's become simply phenomenal.

[link]kariannphotography's gallery is something that I can't put into words. Mainly black and white images, each work is just so well done and powerful at the same time.
Her work goes beyond just being an image: A simply titled shot like
'an apple with a leaf' shows this. It's not a picture of an apple, it's curves, shapes, dark and lights. Droplets of water provide artful highlights that capture the eye. Every edge is defined, with the depth of field wide enough to include the whole of the subject. The purely black background gives powerful negative space, defining the form further.
Her self portraits that vary around her gallery are also artfully done, and powerful. It seems that special attention is given to the eyes, which are darker and more defined than the rest of the image.
Other pieces also show mastery of the media; almost any of her shots could be placed on a wall and look good.
As I always say, I highly suggest looking at her gallery. I would even say watch her, and tell everyone you know to watch her as well, because there's no telling what she might do next.
She's got potential and she's using it to the fullest. So to Kari I say, keep up the excellent work. I haven't been disappointed with any of your shots yet.

To Kariann: as I said, keep it up. I feel like you deserve a lot more attention, and if I could I would gladly shout your DA page from a mountaintop. XD
